For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with the Dirty Dancing.  Patrick Swayze.  Jennifer Grey.  Salsa.  What could be better?  There are so many iconic lines from the movie (“Nobody puts baby in a corner” and “I carried a watermelon?”) but really it’s the chemistry, the music and the dancing that got me every time.  I love the scenes in the stream when they are practicing the lift and then, at the end, when she finally “gets it” and the lift is just perfect.   There’s something about how passionate, playful, and romantic they are that stops me in my tracks ever time the movie comes on.  It is a movie that spoke to a generation and continues to capture the new ones.

So, when I decided to put together my first styled shoot I kept thinking of what Johnnie and Baby’s wedding would look like.  A little classic, a little feminine, a little rock and roll.  I fell in love with the possibilities and so, I set to make it happen. Kate Rosado did an amazing job in helping me style the vintage details and the desserts were crafted by Brittany Davies of BDelicious cakes whose specialty is mini-desserts.  I also wanted a look for “Baby” that was soft but not super bridal, something that was reminiscent of that final blush dress. Here are the results:

Let’s start with the “I Carried the Watermelon-tini”:

And, of course, what would a Dirty Dancing wedding shoot be without, well, some dancing?  Thank you to my amazing models, Tami and Arial, for not only being super photogenic but also great dancers and a perfect Johnny and Baby!

Thank you to:

I hope you enjoyed my journey into styled shoots and Dirty Dancing world.

I tell the story of all my brides and their wedding day, and I love telling those stories, but today is my turn to tell the story of my own wedding day.

Eight years ago today I said “I Do” to my best friend and the only man I would ever want beside me.  My husband, Charlie, vowed to be by my side, to hold my hand and keep my dreams and he has done just that.  I find myself lucky and blessed everyday knowing that he will do everything he can to support me, push me, and aid me in any way I need.  Charlie is patient and kind and he is one of the most selfless people I know.  We have been through a lot and there is no one I could ask for or even imagine to hold my hand and be on this ride with me.  So here is a look at our wedding day from July 17, 2004.

All images by Jeffrey Vock (btw, all of my images were shot on film, a look I love but may result in colors being off):

Yeah, I hyperventilated a little.  I’m a bit of a drama queen :)

I really wanted to have some traditional Jewish elements in my wedding and one that I really loved is that of the bride walking 7 times around the groom to create a circle of protection around him but Charlie wanted to modernize it a little so I walked 3 circles around him, he 3 circles around me, and together we encompassed the gazebo (our chuppa) which represented our future home.  It was our promise to always protect each other and our home.  The fact that my sister was a huge part of it meant the world to me.

Thank you honey for giving me some of the best years of my life, for making the hard times so much more bearable and the good times so much more amazing.  I would not be the woman I am today if it wasn’t for the man you are everyday.  I love you with all my heart, all my soul, and every fiber of my being.

Thank you everyone for sharing in this memory.

Until Next Time…

Meet one of the most adorable couples EVER!  Heather and Jamie are the incredible husband and wife duo behind Thea Creative.  Sound like a familiar name?  It should.  They are the ones responsible for my entire brand and this very blog.  Heather is the fabulous designer and Jamie is the talented developer (you know the one that handles, and gets excited by, all those letters and numbers that mean nothing to us artists but together make a fabulous visual space for us to display our images).  But this post isn’t about who they are professionally (though I could go on forever about that, and have), it is about who they are as a couple and how lucky I am to have been chosen to capture their special day.

On the day of our shoot, Heather and Jamie were celebrating their five year wedding anniversary.  I believe that an anniversary shoot is just as important as an engagement shoot or wedding portrait.  It’s just as great of an accomplishment and milestone to stay married and devoted and in love years after you are married and it should absolutely be celebrated.

So let me tell you what I love about this couple:

Jamie is an incredibly supportive and protective husband.  He would do anything to make sure his wife is happy and healthy and that is a good man.  He understands her needs and her moods (sometimes maybe better than she does, and that’s how it should be).  Heather is the kind of person who will put everyone’s needs ahead of her own because she is passionate about the people that are important to her life.  They are both the sweetest and kindest people I know and they are both spitfires in their own right.  They fight hard, play hard, work hard, but love hardest and their hearts are just so in the right place.

We had a blast on our shoot beating out the weather, waiting out a little rain, and chasing a rainbow (literally).  These two were up for anything I threw at them (I guess it helps that they are also photographers as well as designers and understand what it takes to get THE shot).  It was a day that truly was a celebration of their love.  I watched them melt into each other, gaze at each other, laugh with (and at) each other and just fall in love with each other and the moments around them.  It was a spectacular shoot in so many ways.

We started our day on the streets of Long Beach Island and it’s always a bit nerve wrecking photographing other photographers but we quickly found our groove.  By the way, I apologize in advance for the amount of images (or eye candy) you will be looking at.  I just loved this session so much and could not narrow it down any further.  Enjoy.

A quick outfit change and we headed down to the beach with the family, meet Sadie and Rusty:

Oh, and did I forget to mention what hotties these two are?

Another outfit change, and a small rain shower in between, and we were blessed with the most beautiful rainbow.  Heather told the us that this was the exact time she was walking down the aisle to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and that her Auntie Jean, who had passed away, send this to her.  I swear I had chills up and down my spine and tears in my eyes.

Ummmmm, hello gorgeous!!

I mean, seriously you two… I can’t even stand it! Rowr! (I think Heather has the most incredible smile and laugh.  So full hearted and genuine)

The day after this shoot was Heather’s birthday so we surprised her with a red velvet cupcake (her fave) from Crumbs.

Heather and Jamie wanted images and an experience where they could feel “perfectly {them}, perfectly comfortable in their own skin, and perfectly comfortable in each other’s arms.”  I think the location they chose was just perfect and the result so them.

Seriously, I love you guys and thank you so much for choosing me to be a part of this special day.  Happy Anniversary and to many, many more.

Until Next Time…
